The incident took place around 9 a.m. Monday in rainy conditions at the Retreat Senior Living community on Langdon Grove off Stoneleigh Avenue in Carmel, said Carmel Police Lt. John Dearman.

Darman said the 67-year-old Carmel woman told officers she thought she was stepping on the brake, but instead hit the gas, jumped a curb and drove through a fence before ending up in the bottom of the pool.

Luckily, two residents working out in the gym located next to the pool jumped in, broke through the window and got the woman out safely, he said.

"She was lucky it wasn't the weekend when the pool is busy," Dearman said. "A lot of people could have been injured."

The woman escaped without any injuries, he added.
